Creating an Isomalt Candy Necklace

Here's one of the more unusual pieces of jewelry I made this year. I've been working on an edible necklace for the Salon du Chocolate Fashion Show, which is happening in NYC this weekend!

After consulting with my partner, Marilyn Bawol of Unique Cakes, I designed my necklace in CAD first, to make sure the scale would work well with the elaborate dress and headpiece she was creating.

Then, I milled the parts of my necklace in green wax and made molds from them.

Finally, I poured isomalt candy into the molds, and applied gold leaf to the candies. (Note: making candy is WAY harder than I realized!)

I envisioned the gold leaf on this necklace glinting in the lights of the runway, and I can't wait to see pictures from the event. Shout out to Marilyn Bawol for collaborating with me and offering so much guidance on this project!
